LAKE MURRAY GEM

This quaint & unassuming midcentury style home in Lake Murray got a full gut renovation! A retired couple bought this home so they could move down permanently from Northern California to be near their kids & grandkids. This was our first project with aging in place in mind and after much discussion about their current & future needs (plus some must haves!) tough decisions and compromises needed to be made.

 

Sometimes in design and construction, the things you want/need can lead into the snowballing of other necessary things to be done to make what you really want to not just function correctly, but look beautiful, too. This project was just that, every little thing ended up needing to be touched and redone for the desired outcome, but the homeowners knew this was the only time they were doing such a project and wanted the house to be their HOME and to enjoy it for the rest of their lives. They also didn’t want to live through construction later, so it all needed to be done at the same time. It was necessary for the home to be highly functional and accessible, but we took it up a notch and made it BEAUTIFUL! No detail was spared and I think we hit the nail on the head. As validation, their physical therapist was there for a visit and they let me know that she was extremely impressed by the functional design, but loved how pretty it was, too. Proud designer over here!

 

Portugal was the inspiration for the colors, tiles & overall feel after our client was on vacation there and fell in love. We wanted to bring that into their home so it felt a little bit like being on vacation. With a touch of HHID’s flair and bringing some modernity in with the old world feel, this home is ready to rock for the next few decades.
