TEENAGE GIRLS’ BATHROOM
This stunning bathroom was designed for two very special teenage girls. Their parents prioritized renovating their daughters’ bathroom and bedrooms as the first phase of their whole home renovation. With the girls now in their teens, they wanted to provide them with updated, personal spaces.
There were several absolute needs we needed to fulfill which were: two sinks, overall privacy, more storage, remove the existing bathtub, rainshower head & handshower, and overall modernization & personalization.
Our solutions for these requests were:
- Expanding the Space: The original bathroom had a sad, single sink, floating vanity that was too small for the space and had at least an extra foot of (wasted) space on either side. The existing space was a bit tight to include a larger vanity with two sinks, so we removed a wall that was shared with the hallway closet and expanded into that area. This gave us ample space for a custom vanity to house all the girls’ products and equipment, plus two sinks.
- Privacy: The family wanted the girls to be able to use the bathroom at the same time. We were able to build a new wall with a pocket door to separate the shower & toilet from the vanity area. We also replaced the window with a reeded glass one without having to install a window treatment.
- Storage: Along with the larger vanity, we included a small side table with a drawer and a wall cabinet in the shower/toilet room for extra storage and easy access for toilet related items.
- Modern Shower: We removed the bathtub and stayed within the original footprint to create a fresh, fun & open shower with a glass enclosure to show off all the textures of the tiles. And of course, a rain showerhead and handshower are featured!
- Personalization: The overall design inspiration for the house was “Mexican Modern” to celebrate the family’s heritage. We used a blend of natural materials of various textures, mixed finishes, and installed high-end fixtures. Handmade Mexican clay tiles, including the “Pio Pio” backsplash, add a personal touch, referencing the sound of chickens in Spanish and reminding the parents of their daughters’ playful conversations.
This bathroom turned out so jaw dropping, we are still pinching ourselves! The niche ended up being a whim redesign due to framing issues, but we all love it SO much more. It really finishes off the shower and encapsulates & balances out all the shapes, textures, & movement we have throughout the rest of the space.
